Seven days is enough to loop Iceland, but fourteen is enough to enjoy it. With two weeks you can keep every drive short, give the best regions a full day each, and end most evenings in hot water rather than behind the wheel. This route runs clockwise from Reykjavik around the Ring Road (Route 1), with a warm soak built into nearly every day and plenty of slow time set aside to rest. Pack light, book the headline baths ahead, and let the pace stay gentle.
Days 1 to 2, Reykjavik and the southwest
Arrive and let the trip begin softly. Spend the first afternoon by the sea at the Sky Lagoon, working slowly through its seven step ritual as the Atlantic stretches out past the infinity edge. Give the second day to the city itself, a neighbourhood pool, the harbour, good coffee and an early night, so you start the loop rested rather than rushed.
Days 3 to 4, Golden Circle and the south
Turn inland for the Golden Circle and its waterfalls, geysers and rift valley, then soak at the rustic Hrunalaug or the steaming Secret Lagoon in Fludir, the oldest pool in the country. The next day follow the south coast past black sand beaches and big waterfalls, with an optional walk up the green valley to the historic Seljavallalaug pool set into the mountainside.
Days 5 to 6, the southeast and glaciers
Glacier country fills these days, with the ice lagoon at Jokulsarlon, the diamond beach and long views of the icecap. Keep the driving relaxed and the stops frequent. Overnight near Hofn, where langoustine is the local treat, and let the quiet of the southeast settle in before you reach the fjords.
Days 7 to 8, the Eastfjords and a slow stay
The road winds into the calm of East Iceland, where the crowds thin and the fjords open one after another. Soak at the Vök Baths, floating pools set out on a lake near Egilsstadir, then base yourself in the east for a full slow day. A gentle fjord or forest walk, a village geothermal pool in the evening, and good local food make this one of the most restful stretches of the whole loop.
Days 9 to 10, the northeast and the Earth Lagoon
Carry on north past the thundering Dettifoss to the Lake Myvatn area, where steam rises from the ground and the Earth Lagoon (formerly Mývatn Nature Baths) looks out over a vast volcanic landscape. Soak under the midnight sun in summer or watch for the aurora in the colder months. A second day here lets you wander the lava fields and craters at an easy pace.
Days 11 to 12, Akureyri and the north coast
Drop down to Akureyri, the friendly capital of the north, and soak among the birch trees at the Forest Lagoon above the fjord. Use the second day for a whale watching trip from the coast, a botanic garden stroll, or simply a long lazy morning before the road turns back south.
Days 13 to 14, the west and home
Cross the open north and into the west, where you can pair the geothermal Krauma baths with the Hraunfossar lava falls, or detour to the Husafell Canyon Baths tucked into the highland edge. On the final day, follow the shore of Hvalfjordur to the tidal pools at Hvammsvik for a last fjordside float before the short drive back to Reykjavik.
Two weeks turns the loop from a drive into a rest. Short days, long soaks, and time to do nothing at all.
