They are the two names everyone knows, and both are genuinely lovely, so this is less about which is "better" and more about which fits your plans. The short version: Blue Lagoon for the iconic lava field setting near the airport, Sky Lagoon for an ocean view and a spa ritual minutes from Reykjavík.

Location & timing

Blue Lagoon sits on the Reykjanes peninsula, close to Keflavík Airport, which makes it the perfect bookend to a trip. Many travellers soak on the way in to shake off the flight, or on the way out before a late departure. Sky Lagoon is on the edge of Reykjavík itself, so it is the easy choice if you are based in the city and want a half day without a long drive.

Atmosphere

Blue Lagoon is the picture postcard Iceland: milky blue, mineral rich water set against black lava, with a polished spa and in water bar. Sky Lagoon trades the lava field for a long infinity edge that seems to pour into the Atlantic, at sunset it is hard to beat.

The ritual

Sky Lagoon's signature is its seven step ritual: warm lagoon, cold plunge, sauna with a sea view, cool mist, a gentle scrub, steam, and a final soak. It gives the visit a lovely sense of structure. Blue Lagoon leans more into spa indulgence, silica and algae masks, optional treatments, and that unmistakable water.

Choose Blue Lagoon for the arrival ritual; choose Sky Lagoon for the golden hour view.
