Tours & Activities Reykholt

SPIRITUAL, CULTURAL, HISTORIC & ADVENTUROUS

Reykholt was home of Snorri Sturluson, Iceland’s greatest Saga writer, poet and historian. Today, Reykholt is still one of Iceland’s main spiritual, historical and cultural sites. Here you will find two beautiful churches, Snorri’s natural hot pool, Snorralaug, Heimskringla and Snorrastofa, an exhibit of Snorri’s writings and a research centre for medieval studies. In the park is a statue of Snorri by the Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. Archaeological excavations are carried out on site by the National Museum of Iceland. Just a few minutes drive from Reykholt are the waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, Europe's most powerful hot spring, Deildatunguhver, and several lava tubes and caves. Snow mobile tours are available on the glacier Langjökull. Reykholt is located in the area called Borgarfjörður in West Iceland.
